HOw do lessons work?

Lessons are either 30 or 60 minutes in duration and are held weekly at a regular time during the school term. Lessons outside of term can be held by mutual arrangment.

All lessons are one on one (no group lessons are available). Lessons are held in my purpose built studio located at my house in Tauranga.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO START LEARNING THE DRUMS?

I have students of all ages ranging from 7 to 67. Students under 7 years are taken through a trial lesson to evaluate if they have enough maturity and attention span to get value from the lessons.

Does it matter that I’ve never played the drums or any musical instrument before?

Not at all. No experience or knowledge is required. I encourage you to come and have a try…its a lot of fun!

I’d like to play the drums but what if I’m not talented enough?

In my experience hard work will beat ‘talent’ every single time. It is true that some people might have some in built natural ability that means they start faster, but a few weeks in, it all evens out. In my view when it comes to learning to play drums, talent is a myth.

Do I need to have a drum kit to learn the drums?

Not initially. If you are gauging whether drumming is for you before you commit to buying a kit, that’s ok. Some parents like to wait a few weeks to ensure that their child is going to maintain interest in drumming before purchasing a drum kit. You can work on a small practice pad in the meantime.

However, if you are serious about learning to play the drums you need a drum kit so you are able to practice at home. Practicing on your own kit will mean you master your new skills faster.

I have always wanted to play drums but I don’t want to be in a band, is that ok?

Absolutely, all students have different goals. For some it’s to learn a particular song, for others it’s to play at their birthday party and impress their friends. Many learn to play just because its fun.
